When film making began, the only way to get enough light was to shoot outdoors, even if the scene was taking place inside. <\/p>\n<p>This photo shows the Lubin Studios rooftop location in Philadelphia in 1899. The Edison Studios had a similar arrangement in New Jersey, but their studio was mounted on a turntable and could follow the sun.
