Great Behind The Scenes Footage…”Let’s Make A Deal” 1977

At the link is a 6 minute clip from the 1977 documentary “Deal” that gives us a good look at the show in ABC’s Studio 54 at the Prospect lot in Los Angeles.
I’ve added this photo, so you can more easily identify 40 year camera vet Jan Lowery, in this video. The announcer is Jay Stewart, but aside from Monty Hall, Jan and Jay, I can’t identify the other people…can you fill in the blanks? One of my top faves game shows. I remember coming home from school it would be on. Monty just turned 95 .
The model was more than likely Carol Merrill. The program airs on BUZZR TV at 8 PM. Now they’re airing The New Lets Make a Deal 1984-85. They recently finished 1972-73.
That particular episode was from the nighttime version, I remember watching it when it aired on GSN a few years ago.
Same studio where the original Family Feud was based. 🙂
I remember the Norelco cameras, we had them at KRBC.
Joe Behar, the director, dates all the way back to Ernie Kovacs. He would have some incredible stories to tell.

They made it look so easy looking and that made you not realize the preparation and coordination that went into it. Of course it reminds of one of my favorite Odd Couple episodes

This studio was torn down in 1988 & was rebuilt for General Hospital,which is still in the studio on the ABC Prospect lot. It still was listed as Studio 54 until 2002,when the ABC Television Center lot was renamed as “The Prospect Studios” and the studio numbers were changed.

I was on the show in 1970. Dressed in a baseball uniform. Won $325
First camera I got to operate in the Navy. And the wonderful tv81 cable! 1973-76
It looks bigger on TV! And I know why! It reminds me when I was a contestant on the game show, “Quick Silver” back in the 90’s. No studio audience, canned laughter and applause, and the host wore a TON of makeup!

I’ve got “Deal” on a VHS – bought it at K-mart in the late 80s. Great documentary. Saddest part is, while they talked with Monty, Stef, Jay and some of the writers, the lovely Carol Merrill never said a word! 🙁

Later on, Jay Stewart was the announcer for “Sale of The Century” on NBC. That one was hosted by Jim Perry, who also did “Card Sahrks”, also on on NBC.
