Behind The Scenes…NBC Sports Olympic Coverage Wrap Up

Two years of planning, 102 shipping containers of gear, 1000 cameras, 2700 monitors, and 3000 people, all came together for NBC to televise 11,000 athletes competing in 28 sports over 37 venues.

    I tried to watch. Unfortunately to me, the summer games are a huge yawn. Could have done the whole thing over a weekend – just show the finals – how many times can you watch people in a pool. And please, leave out the human interest stories. BRING ON THE WINTER GAMES!

    What awful coverage by NBC, and the ratings showed it. Excessive commercials during fast passed sporting events like Volleyball made you feel left out of the action when you come back from the break and the score is up 4 points. Was any event shown live? Inane blathering by the announcers. The list of problems goes on and on. I switched to Canadian coverage on the CBC by using a VPN to mask my country of origin. Far, far better coverage.

    Funny how the video seems to suggest it was all done by NBC. Er no mention of the Host Broadcaster (OBS) providing most of it! Never mind, John Fritsche thanked me and the rest of the HB team at the last broadcaster meeting in Athens and probably did the same for my successor at Rio, so WE know who did the bulk of the work don’t we? NBC just takes all the credit!
