April 22, 1966…A Moment In Time With Sammy Davis

This opens with a great shot of Sammy standing in front of an RCA TK41 operated by veteran cameraman Frank Gaeta. This was the fifteenth and last episode of “The Sammy Davis Jr. Show”, from NBC’s Brooklyn Studios on April 22, 1966. Notice at the end, there is a VO announcing the premier of “Sing Along With Mitch Miller”, at the same time next week.

There are some good wide shots at the end which identifies this production as coming from Studio II, as Studio I was much larger. Enjoy! -Bobby Ellerbee

  1. Again with the re-using of the color videotape. Makes you wonder what decisions were being made behind the scenes. All the Dean Martins survived in color, right? Same time period. Did you have to have a separate production company that controlled what happened to the tape? Tennessee Ernie Ford’s ‘The Ford Show’ survived in color. Why? Dinah Shore. Why? Perro Como? I don’t think so, but why? Bell Telephone Hour survived. There seems to be a deep connection between network owned shows and color videotape survival.
