When the show debuted on October 3, 1955, CBS was in a crunch for studio space and for several years rented studio space at The Dumont Telecenter at 205 East 67th Street. Notice the Dumont cameras in this photo from the first month of the show.
As mentioned here recently, other CBS shows that were done there include “Love Of Life”, ‘The Verdict Is Yours”, “The Edge Of Night” and “As The World Turns”, which all eventually moved to Leiderkrantz Hall. Enjoy and share! -Bobby Ellerbee
Yes, Jerry. Woody Herman made some recordings there, probably with Columbia. I read somewhere that the leaders thought the acostics were very good for recording their big bands.
And apparently the Dumont Telecenter at 67th Street was once the Central City Opera House.

Who didn’t like watching the Captain growing up?
Is this address the Adelphi Theater where Gleason filmed the Classic 39? I find it ironic that DuMont was involved somehow with a couple of CBS shows in the 1955-1956 season yet couldn’t survive on their own as a network.
Visited the Captain several times when my Father was with CBS.
I was PA on this show the summer of ’62
