Picture Parade 1…Tis The Season To Be Jolly!
Here’s ‘Today’ show host Dave Garroway pushing a camera sled around the ice rink at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. He hosted for nine years, from the show’s start in 1952, till 1961. Thanks to John Schipp for the photo. Enjoy and share. -Bobby Ellerbee
Peace.
The Today Show is exactly one month older than I am.
The more things change… That’s me as a young grip pushing Jimmy O’Donnell around on the Olympic ice in Lake Placid! The camera was a first generation Sony Hi Def rig. c.1989
How I wish there was a Kinescope of this segment.
Another posed picture with the lens turret half racked to protect the IO.
Looks like the turret is 1/2 racked thus saving the IO.
Garroway was a man whom I grew up admiring and one of the reasons I love broadcasting…
Where’s the monkey
When was the last time you saw talent doing any physical assistance to the crew… in 40 years, I haven’t seen it once.
