The Sounds of Monitor

Incase You Missed It…Fantastic NBC ‘Monitor’ Site!

The page linked here is just great, but it’s just one page of a whole site dedicated to NBC Radio’s weekend show ‘Monitor’. A note…just on this page, there are dozens of great ‘Monitor’ moments, BUT, at the bottom of this page, there are some priceless outtakes and goofs so look and listen there too! Thanks to Dennis Hart for creating this and to Jodie Peeler for sharing it with us. Enjoy, bookmark and share! -Bobby Ellerbee

  1. Jodie, you will appreciate this, my earliest memory of Monitor was listening to it on WCRS through a small radio on the shelf of a barber shop just off Maxwell Ave. in Greenwood .. I could not have been more than 10 .. maybe that’s how my interest in the biz got sparked who knows

  2. That was my favorite radio service during the late fifties. One Sunday afternoon, I recorded the Dave Brubeck Quartet at Chicago’s Blue Note on my Webcor. The solos were the greatest I’ve ever heard…never duplicated on the recordings. (But I erased them for “teenage stuff.”)

  3. I have the Monitor Beacon as my ringtone (being hearing disabled it is one of the best ringtones for me to hear!) Jodie, what a great idea, I think I will do a MP3 CD for the vehicle with as much as I can cram on. Got started with Monitor listening to Gene Rayburn Saturday Mornings and laughing at Fibber McGee and Molly!

  4. Before Ken deutsch got out of the jingle biz I purchased a bunch of CDs from him of which one was monitor jingkes and Sounders. It is in basement I’ll have to check for sure tomorrow

  5. I remember being a child in Cleveland in the mid-50’s and my mother listening to the Monitor “beacon” in the afternoon. I think there was an NBC O&O in the city at that time.
