  1. In 1985, I worked at Reeves/Teletape’s dubbing facility across the street and 2 blocks over from KAS. R/T had moved their dubbing machines from 304 E. 44th Street in Manhattan to Astoria in 1985. The dubbing facility was in what used to be the official Checker Cab sales office, effectively an old car dealership. That former Checker dealership is now a movie theater at the corner of 38th Street and 35th Ave.

  2. Lifetime had a presence at Kauffman-Astoria for years, back when they still produced talk shows(like “Healthstyles with Regis Philbin”,,”Hot Properties””Dr Ruth” “Our Home”,,”Handmade By Design”,”The Main Ingredient” “Live From Queens”,”Biggers & Summers”)

  3. I was stationed at the Fort Monmouth Signal Corp School many decades ago, and I took a field trip to Astoria, then known as the U.S. Army Pictorial Center…quite impressive. Fort Monmouth had an advanced TV center, five separate channels (WFM TV) and production studios. Ironically, the place was run by civilian workers.
