“Mayberry” is more or less alive and well in North Carolina as a small town called Mount Airy. They have embraced the whole Mayberry atmosphere – Snappy Lunch, Floyd’s Barber Shop, etc. It’s quite the tourist attraction. Not a back lot, but a real town. People love it, even though it is really, really hokey.
Nothing hokey about getting a pork chop sandwich at the Snappy Lunch and walking the sidewalk afterward hearing the “Fishing Hole” being whistled on a PA speaker… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFEkd4t0Oj0
Along with Batman, The Green Hornet and Star Trek, 40 Acres (including Andy’s courthouse) appeared in the first season of The Adventures of Superman http://www.jimnolt.com/fortyacres1.htm
TeleTales #30…1955 Prime Time Schedule In February of 1955, The Dumont Network ceased to exist and that left the Big Three…ABC, CBS and NBC. Here’s a look at what was on back then. Interesting that ABC and CBS ran their 15 minute network news shows at 7:15 while NBC stuck to it’s original 7:45 time. […]
The Vinten Merlin Like in the ‘Tonight’ story just posted, I occasionally mention the Vinten Merlin. In case you have never seen one, here you go. This one is on the ‘Today’ set in 1A, but as I understand it, all of NBC’s large studios in New York have one. Beautifully compact and extremely versatile […]
‘Family Feud’…ABC’s TV 54 Studio, Hollywood TV 54 was the largest studio ABC had at the Prospect property. It was also home to ‘American Bandstand’ and ‘Let’s Make A Deal’ back in the ’60s and ’70s. I think ‘General Hospital’ took it over and may still be there…it’s in it’s 51st year on the air. […]
December 6, 1964…A Christmas Classic Was Born! The evening of December 6, 1964, kids across the country tuned into NBC for the debut of “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer” in living color. It has aired every year since. The Christmas television special was produced in stop motion animation by Rankin/Bass Productions, and was sponsored by […]

Wanna blow someone away? Tell ’em that the Mayberry set was used in not one… but *two* Star Trek episodes.
His office was in the courthouse…,.where is gomer’s gas station?
Thank you for posting. It is marvelous to see the set. It doesn’t really matter where it was located because it lives in our hearts.
I loved Andy’s “Football” records.
is there an aerial shot of Hooterville?
Mt. Airy…What famous star besides Andy came from there? Don’t google.
I don’t remember Carroll’s Men’s Clothing I don’t think. I Remember all teh rest. BUT What famous landmark is missing?
CSI New York, Seinfeld and even NYPD Blue were largely filmed on sound stages in LA. On a few occasions, outdoors scenes were shot in New York.
The Andy Griffith show had extensive outdoor scenes and would have needed to be on a set like this.
“It’s an illusion. NONE of it is real.” Howard Beale aka “The Mad Prophet of the Airwaves.” 😉
Is too…I had a pork chop sandwich there last year, in Mount Airy, the REAL Mayberry.
This is cool!

Where was the Sheriff’s Office?
Every time I get into an OTIS elevator, I think of Otis Campbell.
