Thanks to Martin Perry for sharing this remarkable clip. It turns out KTVT in Fort Worth has a surprisingly deep lineage with GE broadcast cameras — and this promo shows it. Even the RARE PE 25!

Story Of Videotape Editing…Part 2 (of 2) Yesterday’s first installment was pretty easy to follow, even for laymen, but this lesson on digital editing is more of a challenge. This does however have an interesting timeline that reminds us of when new developments came into play. I’m posting a second video in a few minutes […]

‘Queen For A Day’ Here is the ABC Hollywood crew for the show with a few of the iconic white ABC TK30s around 1949. One of the show’s telecast locations was the Earl Carroll Theater on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood and that’s where this photo was taken. In 1953, it was renamed The Moulin Rouge […]

‘Mad Men’, Last Night…RCA TK42 Thanks to Steve Finkelmeyer here is a shot of the TK42 from last night’s ‘Mad Men’. Steve’s sharp eye has spotted the little black box under the front which is the lipstick camera and probably makes this TK42 one from our friend Jim Elyea’s, History For Hire in LA. Source

Double Header: 40 Inch Lens and The Edison Effect Last week this photo was posted by Pierre Seguin and comes from a 1947 edition of Popular Mechanics. It shows a 1945 RCA Orthicon camera with a 40 inch lens, described as the longest ever used at the time. It also mentions that television works only […]
Intriguing that even though KTVT-11 is currently owned by CBS, the management there did have the sense to include in this spot its prior history as an independent station.
KTVT was a sister station of ne one I worked for in Amarillo, Texas, KFDA-TV. At the time owned by Sid Richardson, a long time friend of Clint Murchison. The stations were part of the old Texas State Network, not an actual network other than mutual owners. The TSN stations were very strong on GE cameras at that time.
The DFW market was strong GE. WFAA and KRLD (now KDFW) were GE color as well.
Having worked for WTVT -13 in Tampa, I remember they had the same owners back in the 50’s and 60’s the WKY Television System Inc.
GE was big in Houston as well. And was that a GE IO color camera in that lineup? Those were rare birds.
In the first three camera shot, the guy standing next to the PE-350 is Don Lacey. He was my boss when I worked there in 1969-70. I probably ran that camera. At that time, the old black and white GE’s were relegated to “The Bread Truck” which was the remote unit we used for church services from First Baptist Church in Dallas. They usually needed to be “kick started” during the service to keep them working. 😉
A really nice promo. Well done and understated.
And isn’t that Ron Burgundy anchoring the noon news?
I’m fascinated by the GE IO color cameras, so even a flash of the PE-25 was cool.
