What Do You Think?
I think having a program monitor on a camera is a good idea. I know that you can punch it up on the VF, but you can’t see both screens at the same time.

I have yet to try that. But my friends, co-workers do that. With hard cameras as well as hand held.
I think it’s a good idea. Especially if you shoot auto racing. Looking at return/program is essential prior to your tally. You must know what car the cameras ahead of you is following.
As a Jimmy jib operator I can tell you that you developp the ability to watch both at the same time.
Might be good, especially if communication is low on headset. You can see who possibly has a shot similar to yours.
Great idea. I cant stand the delay from the tally light.
Serge, that’s an interesting option on hard bodys, but not with the jib cause the precision of the moves and the tracking comes from beeing able to watch the 4 corners of your monitor at the same time. And peripheric vision is a must!
I have done only a little TV operating but I would have found this a BIG help.
Excellent concept…
Most cam operators supply their own
It is almost a must… They pay us a lot of money to keep the ball in the center of the screen!
And don’t forget to thank the video guy(s), or engineer(s) for the feed.
always kept one eye on the air monitor while running camera at WTVT in Tampa
And figure with a jib… You have to frame with monitor only, watch the program, and move the crane wich is not always facing the action and had to that a dark theater with varylights hanging from all over…
But it’s so much fun and so challenging!
A CBC Cameraman does that all of the time for Hockey.
