Vladimir Zworykin’s Last Interview: By Steve North

Thanks to CBS Morning News writer Steve North for sending this article he recently wrote for The Huffington Post. Steve’s visit with the legendary Dr. Zworykin actually occurred in 1981 but is revisited here in intimate detail and reveals an interesting personal side. Channeling the Father of Television

Despite the fuzzy and complex history of TV’s creation, it seems reasonable to say that the contributions of both Farnsworth and Zworykin were key. And when I arrived at Zworykin’s tree-shaded home in Princeton on a warm July day in 1981, I let him tell the story.

    An interesting read. The problem though is that Zworykin’s system didn’t work. Farnsworth was the first to have a working electronic television system. No can really say there is a “Father of Television”. TV is an idea that dates back to the ancient Greeks and Romans. The first idea for a TV system was described in the 1880s, but was not buildable at the time. Zworykin did amazing work but it was Farnsworth who figured out what the problem was. They both worked hard for many years to invent electronic television. But Farnsworth was the first to make it work.
