Classic! Posed for their closeup,

Classic!

Posed for their closeup, here is the early heart of ABC Sports under Roone Arlidge. I think this photo was taken at Pebble Beach in 1967. The cameras, 12 RCA TK41s, 12 Norelco PC 70s and one RCA TK60 (for title cards) were set up in this line for an ABC ‘Wide World Of Sports’ story on how ABC covers sports events. Enjoy and Share!

  1. I was there and was working the low camera on 18 green. Back then it was the Bing Crosby, in Pebble Beach. It could have been ’67 or ’68, in January. That is Len Bottom Tech Mgr. in the black coat and John Allen TD. I can do a little research to get the correct date. The blue round things on the ground are parab’s they were first made for kids to slide down hill’s in snow. They were painted and a mic was put in the middle, I had the pleasure of working with the guy “Ralph Elmore” that came up with the idea and he let help build them.

  2. When I saw this photo I told my Father I wanted to work for ABCs Wide World of Sports and the ABC TV Netowrk in Hollywood. My dream came true in 1976 and lasted until 2003.

  3. Well Phyllis this was in the late 60s. The cameras are a somewhat smaller today and lighter. Some lenses are much longer and heavier though! On a major golf remote there can be 50+ cameras and miles of cables.!
