On October 4, 1950, Atlanta was finally able to bring live network shows to Georgia via the new coaxial cable. Before the AT&T connection, network shows came in the mail as kinescopes and films.

  1. I find it amazing how the history of “The Network” furnished by AT&T Long Lines shows parallels in television stations being connected to The Network for their shows and the local telephone operating company getting faster access to long distance.

  2. I remember one “live” commercial where they fastened a Timex to the propeller blade of an outboard motor, lowered it into a tank and started it up. After a few minutes, they found out the Watch had come loose and there it was at the bottom of the Plexiglass tank and it was still ticking !
