Fancy Remote Setup Isn’t It?
In the late 50s, ‘Queen For A Day’ would occasionally take the show on the road. When they did, the local NBC stations supplied the equipment and crews. This photo is from KPRC in Houston where a week of shows came from City Auditorium.
Now that’s a “de-rig” but hardly a “fly-away”!
KPRC is and was NBC. KTRK Was and is the ABC affiliate (now an O&O)
That’s Charlie Hunt tweaking the cameras. Charlie started at KPRC-TV in 1949, when it was still KLEE-TV. Though retired, Charlie’s still with us. I saw him last Saturday.
This remote took place in 1961.
Note the many spare vacuum tube boxes lower right! Must have been troubles…
I remember the 1960-64 run. Never knew it was on NBC.
Mark Gulbrandsen, there was always trouble, lots and lots of trouble.
so much tweaking required!
Those round CRTs must have had an early integral Implosion protection system 😉
Bill, dont you mean that it took place in 1951? I came to work at KPRC in May of 61, so the remote must have happned before then.
I was at the station in ’61, it must have been before May when I started.
Bill, the remote must have happened before I came to work at KPRC in May of 61
