TeleTales #14…Tiny Men Or Giant Props?
If you look at this long enough, you begin to wonder. The props are amazingly real looking aren’t they? They are from 1957’s “The Incredible Shrinking Man”. To simulate giant rain drops, prop men filled hundreds of condoms with water…many of which never made it to the set because of frequent water balloon fights. Condoms were used because they were clear and not colored like balloons, which looked more real as they fell. Enjoy and share. -Bobby Ellerbee
I visited Universal Studios many times during that time… I have some pictures somewhere. In the early 80’s, when Lily Tomlin starred in the remake of the film, a giant grocery cart was built..which sat in a lot that the trams drove past.
Yes, I remember the prop phone at the rest stop at Universal!
Water balloon fights, eh? LOL
For many years, some of these very props were on permanent outdoor display at the “Prop Plaza” refreshment and restroom stop on the Universal Studios Tour (just past the “collapsing bridge”).
