Our friend Richard Wirth has given us the second part of his look at NBC Burbank, and concentrates a little more on the engineering and technical advancements made on the lot over its 62 year history. There is one annoyance you should know about. About 12 seconds after opening the article, the video of the first Daytime “Truth or Consequences” show suddenly begins to play about one third of the way down in the article. If you have your volume set up high, it could scare the bejeebers out of you. You can scroll down and hit the STOP button and then start it when you’re ready.     This is very well done… I believe I was the last person to work in On Air Videotape Operations Burbank turning off the lights 12-21-2012. This is the sign above my office to the entrance to the Group 7 desk area… I worked for NBC Burbank for 34 years and now I am in retirement…

    Excellent article. Some things I never knew like east being fed from Burbank. I only thought that was done later on or if something originated there.

    Very nice. One thing I may want to correct: on a quad machine, it was 16 tracks (four headwheel rotations) per FIELD, 8 rotations per frame. 14400/60 sec in a min = 240RPS, 240RPS/30frames per sec = 8 rotations per frame. An interesting side note: when color came along the vertical and horizontal scan rates were changed slightly (lowered) so that they were coincident with the color sub carrier frequency. The new vertical rate was 59.94 FPS. So the headwheel speed was slightly slower: 14385.6RPM.
