The First Hand Held Broadcast Camera
This is the RCA ‘Walkie Lookie’ miniature wireless Vidicon camera designed for coverage of the 1952 Political Conventions. With so much attention to the Ikegami ‘Handy Lookie’ in the posts below, I just wanted to remind you who was actually first with this technology. RCA and the USA!
I believe that is RCA Engineer Jack Castlebury (sp?) with the camera. Many people in the industry attended Jack’s equipment seminars in Camden

At the 1976 Conventions, I think, we had visitors from Sony Japan, looking over our handheld minis. At the next Convention, the Sony minis were all over the place. Go figure.
It might be too heavy after an hour carrying that “back-bag”!?
Notice the “Schenectady Teal” color. All products from Schenectady had that same color. When their land mobile division moved to Lynchburg, the products went to “Lynchburg Grey-Blue”.
Too bad the US isn’t producing them today.
