When It Absolutely, Positively Has To Be There…SNL In ACTION!
This is a look at one of the many amazing set changes per show on television’s last bastion of the live comedy/variety shows. NBC’s first were ‘Four Star Review’ (1949) and ‘The Colgate Comedy Hour’ (1950) with hosts Eddie Cantor and the Martin & Lewis and Abbott & Costello duos. There is nothing like live television! Long live ‘Saturday Night Live’!

if the audience doesn’t see it then you didn’t mess it up…
There’s a better show backstage than on stage.
Yes, Gary! That was my favorite part as well. I work on Today, a live show also. Much of the first hour is spent under this same kind of stress. But just as the one who said ‘We’re screwed’, somehow it still all comes together for air. Not always pretty, but it’s there.
I also like looking for the mistakes. I have a copy of “Suspense” on DVD which was done live. At one point, you can see the cameraman being reflected in front of a mirror. It’s hilarious. You guys would know better than me but I’ll that stuff happened all the time.
That’s the reason I love watching the old classic TV videos, ‘Playhouse 90″ etc. It’s honestly so incredible how they pulled that off every week. It never ceases to amaze me.
